In 2021, a highly significant event was documented: the Royal Mummy Parade. This global event took place on Saturday, April 3, 2021, and involved the relocation of 22 royal mummies from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square, located in the heart of Cairo, to their new home at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat, east of Cairo.

The parade included 22 royal mummies, consisting of 18 mummified kings and 4 mummified queens. The mummies were transported in specially designed vehicles, which moved in the order of the kings’ reigns, honoring the chronological sequence of Egypt’s ancient rulers. This magnificent procession captured the attention of people worldwide, showcasing the grandeur of Egypt’s ancient civilization and its royal legacy.

This magnificent event was a pivotal step in the relocation and preservation of the ancient Egyptian royal mummies, which now reside at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, located just a few kilometers from the Giza Pyramids. Spanning over 33.5 thousand acres, the museum houses over 50,000 artifacts, each piece telling the story of Egypt’s evolving civilization. It highlights the achievements of ancient Egyptians across various fields from the dawn of history to the present day.

As soon as you enter the museum, you are greeted by a statue of one of the most famous pharaohs, King Ramses II. The museum is divided into two main sections. The upper section features the Main Exhibition Hall, which showcases a wide array of artifacts providing a comprehensive understanding of Egyptian civilization. It includes pieces from various periods, such as the Pharaonic, Greek, Roman, Coptic, Islamic, and modern eras. These artifacts offer visitors a detailed view of Egypt’s historical and cultural developments through the ages.

The museum not only highlights Egypt’s ancient legacy but also offers a journey through the cultural milestones that shaped the nation.

Its age is 35 thousand years.

As soon as you enter the museum, one of the most stunning displays catches your attention—an exhibition featuring the royal mummies and a collection of statues of the great pharaohs. These exhibits offer a glimpse into the grandeur of Egypt’s ancient rulers. Additionally, the museum houses the Kiswa of the Holy Kaaba, a remarkable and sacred piece of history, along with a wide array of souvenirs and artifacts that span across different eras, showcasing Egypt’s cultural richness and historical significance throughout the ages. The diversity and historical depth of these treasures truly make for an awe-inspiring visit.

As you continue your tour, you’ll notice that in front of each artifact, there is a tablet providing detailed information about the item, explaining its significance and historical context. The museum experience is further enriched by a captivating soundtrack that accompanies you throughout the exhibits, allowing you to embark on a mental journey, immersing you deeper into each section of the museum. It’s also a fantastic opportunity to take incredible photographs in this unique and historically rich setting.

The second section of the museum is the lower hall, which houses the Mummy Hall. The atmosphere in this hall is carefully designed to evoke the ambiance of the Valley of the Kings, where many of Egypt’s most famous pharaohs were buried. The hall features 20 royal mummies, including 18 kings and 2 queens from the 17th to the 20th dynasties. Among the most notable mummies on display are those of King Seqenenre Tao, King Thutmose III, Queen Hatshepsut, King Ramses II, and King Ramses III. (Photography is not permitted in this section of the museum to preserve the sanctity and historical value of the mummies.)
